How do the vintage Pokémon price indexes work?

The desk publishes 5 composite indexes and 15 set indexes, each a fixed-weight basket of documented PSA 10 marks rebased to 1,000 in Oct 2022. As of 3 Nov 2026 .AGG — every tracked card — stands at 5,022, -13.1% on the month and +164.3% on the year. A level of 2,000 means the basket is worth twice what it was at the base; the month-on-month and twelve-month changes are what the market report, the badges and the API carry. Not investment advice: this is a record of what sold, dated, not a view on what will.

How to read one

Each index is a basket: every constituent card's PSA 10 mark, weighted, summed and divided by the same sum at the base month, times 1,000. A card's mark is its last documented PSA 10 sale averaged with the week before it (rule R1); a print more than three times away from the card's own recent trading is held until a second sale agrees (rule R3), so one strange hammer does not move an index. The level is a ratio, not a dollar figure; the dollar figure is the graded cap on PokeSpace. The month-on-month change compares the last two monthly closes; twelve-month compares to the close a year earlier. History before the base month is reconstructed from the same sales and labelled as such on the index pages. Levels are published as JSON on the Index API and as embeddable badges; the methodology page has the formulas.

How these numbers are marked

Every price is a documented PSA sale — an eBay item with its cert number, a Card Ladder entry, or an auction-house lot with its page — never an asking price or an estimate. A card's PSA 10 mark is its last documented sale, averaged with any sales of the week before it (rule R1). A print that sits more than three times away from the card's own recent trading, or across a neighbouring grade's level, is held until a second sale agrees with it. Each index is a fixed-weight basket of those marks, rebased to 1,000. The receipt behind every mark is on its card page.

Questions

What is the VCT vintage Pokémon price index?

A family of fixed-weight indexes of documented PSA 10 sales for vintage Pokémon cards, rebased to 1,000 in Oct 2022: .AGG for every tracked card, .VPI for the WotC composite, .GLDSTR, .PONCHO, .JPN and one per set.

What does an index level of 2,000 mean?

That the basket is worth twice what it was in Oct 2022, on documented PSA 10 sales. It is a ratio, not a price.

How often do the indexes update?

Every two hours when the pipeline runs: new documented sales reset marks by rule, and the indexes are recomputed from the marks. Monthly closes are kept on the market report and the API.
