What a vintage booster box is
A Wizards of the Coast booster box is the factory-sealed display the packs shipped in: 36 booster packs, eleven cards a pack in the Base Set to Legendary Collection era and nine in the e-Card sets (Expedition, Aquapolis, Skyridge). A sealed box's value rests on the packs inside staying unopened — every box opened makes the rest scarcer — which is why the marks here move with the cards they could produce, but are not the same thing.
At today's marks a pack from the dearest box, Base Set 1st Edition, costs $20,833; the entry point, Neo Discovery Unlimited, works out at $325 a pack.
What the 1st Edition stamp is worth
A 1st Edition box comes from the first print run; its packs, and every card in them, carry the 1st Edition mark. Where the desk marks both editions of a set, the 1st Edition box sells for:
| Set | 1st Edition | Unlimited | Premium |
|---|---|---|---|
| Base Set | $750,000 | $40,126 | 18.7× |
| Neo Revelation | $80,300 | $15,491 | 5.2× |
| Neo Discovery | $49,046 | $11,689 | 4.2× |
| Neo Genesis | $90,000 | $23,197 | 3.9× |
| Jungle | $32,035 | $15,851 | 2.0× |
| Fossil | $30,650 | $17,500 | 1.8× |
| Team Rocket | $26,300 | $15,638 | 1.7× |
| Gym Heroes | $30,201 | $19,875 | 1.5× |
| Gym Challenge | $38,875 | $26,652 | 1.5× |
| Neo Destiny | $82,000 | $60,000 | 1.4× |

How a box at this level changes hands
The dearest vintage boxes sell through the large auction houses and a few specialist dealers, usually with their history attached — where the box has been, who opened the case it came from — and often with a third-party check of the factory seal, because a resealed or substituted box is the main risk at these prices. A sale with that paperwork and one without are not the same sale; the desk records the venue and links the listing for every box sale it uses.

Questions
What is the most expensive Pokémon booster box?
On documented sales, Base Set 1st Edition at $750,000, followed by Skyridge Unlimited. Every box's mark and the sales behind it are on the desk.
How are booster box prices calculated?
Each mark is the median of the trailing four months of documented sales after dropping comps below 45% of the window median; a 1st Edition box is floored at its set's Unlimited mark, because sub-floor '1st Edition' comps are almost always mislabelled Unlimited boxes.
How many packs are in a vintage Pokémon booster box?
36. Every English WotC booster box from Base Set (1999) to Skyridge (2003) held 36 sealed packs — eleven cards a pack until Legendary Collection, nine in the e-Card sets.
What is the cheapest vintage Pokémon booster box?
On the desk's marks, Neo Discovery Unlimited at $11,689 — $325 a pack.
Is a 1st Edition booster box worth more than Unlimited?
Yes — across the 10 sets the desk marks in both editions, the 1st Edition box sells for 1.4× to 18.7× the Unlimited box of the same set.
